Devaraj Pathak is a veteran educator with four decades of teaching experience in Deukhuri, Dang, where he is known as 'Pathak Sir', and former District Vice-Chairperson of Nepal Teachers Association. He joined Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in 2079 BS, serving as Lumbini Province Chairperson and Central Committee member, after which he contested and lost the 2079 election in Dang-1 with 13,798 votes. In the 2082 BS general election, he won the Dang-1 seat with 42,602 votes, becoming RSP's oldest elected MP at age 60.
